The American Library Association (ALA)
conducted a three-day regional workshop to
strengthen library associations in the South
Caucasus from May 5 to 8, 2001, in Tbilisi,
Georgia.
Organized in cooperation with the library
associations of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and
Georgia, the workshop was designed to assist the
organizations in these emerging democracies to
fulfill their critical roles in developing an
informed citizenry. The initiative was part of
ALA President Nancy Kranich's presidential
theme: “Libraries: The Cornerstone of
Democracy.”
